It is a common question and simply put engineers are integral to any build project regardless of size. Their work can cover a range of objectives from structural stability, drainage design, foundation design, connection detailing. To use an analogy if the human body were designed by an architect he would be interested in the shape of the body, but the engineer would be interested in its skeleton, sinews, the underlying structure and its capacity to handle everything that life throws at it.
